THE RESEARCH PROJECT

The purpose of the project is to establish a better understanding of the experiences and situations of cohabiting adult siblings in a context of wider legal debates about whether a form of legal recognition and/or provision should be made available to these relationships. Much of the debate to date has focused on whether cohabiting siblings should be able to have civil partnerships and whether an inheritance tax exemption should be available to them. I have written about those debates hereA key question of this project, in light of those debates, is of the form or forms of legal recognition and/or provision that siblings living together as adults in the UK seek (if any).

The project involves interviews with and written accounts from:

  • adults who are 18+ and live with a sibling (or siblings) in the UK (excluding those living together with their parent/s)

  • legal practitioners with experience of advising in this context

If you are interested in being interviewed for the project, or in writing to me about your experience, please get in touch for further information via the form available here. Information about the way in which data from the project will be held and processed and about the ethics review of the study is available on that same page
